Property in the Drakensberg - Cathkin Estates Conservation and Wildlife Sanctuary

Make your home in unspoiled nature.

Cathkin Estates Conservation and Wildlife Sanctuary represents the largest single package of Drakensberg property development rights granted in the region. The sanctuary property totals some 1054 hectares of virgin grasslands, forests and mountain streams with an abundance of indigenous plants and wildlife.

The estate was launched in 2003 and the first three of five villages were sold out very quickly. A total of 144 out of approximately 200 freehold properties for sale were quickly snapped up.

Development within the sanctuary will cover no more than 6% of the total property and the balance is common property owned by the Home Owners Association for the use and benefit of the owners.

The Sanctuary’s unique status as the largest privately owned game park in the Drakensberg is further enhanced by the fact that it abuts the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site. World heritage status was awarded in three categories – for archeology, vegetation and geology. Only seven other sites in this world share this status. The sanctuary has also recently been granted the status of an Oribi Reserve, further enhancing it’s reputation as a wildlife sanctuary.
